Scalac’s Summary of 2024: Akka, Scala and Fintech

Scalac's Summary of 2024

Building our position as a fintech development company while maintaining strong roots in Scala and Akka, Scalac’s journey through 2024 was marked by growth and strategic partnerships. The last twelve months marks progress in our Scala initiatives, team extension services, and overall growth as a technology partner for businesses worldwide – not just for financial services. There are some Scalac’s moments and achievements worth talking about in more detail from 2024, so let’s dive in!

Industry partnerships: Fintech and more

Partnering with Akka

One of the most exciting developments of 2024 was our official partnership with Akka (formerly Lightbend). This collaboration has positioned Scalac several steps closer to becoming the go-to Akka development company. It’s a milestone in our journey that validates Scalac’s technical expertise in distributed systems. Combining our Scala experience with Akka’s platform allows us to help enterprises build reliable, low-latency architectures that meet their critical business needs. Through this partnership, we’ve expanded our capabilities in delivering scalable, fault-tolerant solutions that address complex enterprise challenges. As our partners from Akka said, together, we enter the new year with resilience!

Strengthening Fintech presence in Europe

In a move that further cements our position as one of the leading fintech experts in the market, Scalac joined forces with FINTECH BELGIUM. This partnership has opened new doors for us in the very heart of Europe’s financial technology sector. It aligns perfectly with our goal of being a comprehensive fintech development company capable of addressing the unique challenges faced by large financial institutions and startups alike.

Our expanded network in Belgium has opened new opportunities for dialogue and collaboration with potential partners in the fintech space, strengthening our presence in the European market.

Connecting with the Fintech community

Conferences & conversations: From Nordic Summits to Money 20/20 in Vegas

In 2024, our team participated in industry events across Europe and the United States, establishing Scalac as a fintech development company with a global presence. From Helsinki’s Nordic Fintech Summit to the Digital Finance Summit in Brussels, we engaged in meaningful discussions with professionals from the Scala development community. Our reach extended to major events, including Money20/20 and HLTH USA in Las Vegas, Big Data London, and technology gatherings in Zurich.

These conferences provided valuable opportunities to exchange knowledge with fellow tech enthusiasts and learn from others in the field. Through presentations and conversations with industry peers, we gained insights into how financial technology continues evolving, helping us refine our fintech development services and team extension offerings to serve our clients’ needs better.

Tech knowledge exchange: from Paris to London

Our commitment to knowledge-sharing and community engagement extended beyond just fintech solutions. Scalac was present at numerous tech-focused conferences and meetups across Europe. From Paris to Brussels, Warsaw to London, our team of Scala and Akka developers shared their expertise, contributing to the global community.

By participating in these diverse tech gatherings, we’ve expanded our network and stayed at the cutting edge of technological advancements.

Community building initiatives

Insights from Fintech Leaders: our new interview video series

As an aspiring fintech development company, Scalac aims to provide value beyond code. To this end, we launched the “Insights from Fintech Leaders” video series. This initiative brought together some of the brightest minds in the fintech industry, offering viewers exclusive insights into the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of financial technology.

The series has been a success, featuring interviews with CEOs, founders, and innovators from across the fintech world.

It’s something beyond just content – through this series, we contribute to the fintech ecosystem by sharing industry knowledge and fostering meaningful discussions. The pleasure was (and still is) all ours – stay tuned for the episodes airing in 2025!

Keeping Scala community up to date

Our dedication to the Scala community remained unwavering in 2024. We continued our popular meetup series, including Functional World (we’ve just hit 1300 members on this one!) and ScaLatin, providing platforms for Scala enthusiasts to connect, learn, and grow.

The Scalendar, our event-driven newsletter (with almost 1500 members and counting!), keeps the global Scala community informed about key conferences and meetups throughout the year. This initiative has become an essential resource for developers looking to stay connected.

Scalac Alumni community: a homecoming initiative

2024 marked the launch of our Scalac Alumni Community project, an initiative that saw former team members rejoining our ranks. This wave of homecomings inspired us to create a dedicated newsletter, keeping past and present Scalacers connected and informed about the latest developments at Scalac.

The initiative helps us maintain relationships with everyone who has been part of our journey as a Scala and fintech development company. Through regular updates, we share news about our Scala projects, Akka development work, and other activities at Scalac, helping alumni stay informed about opportunities to collaborate again.

Collaborations and knowledge sharing

Partnering with tech workshops and events

Our involvement in the tech community extended to partnerships with various workshops and events. We were proud to be part of Scala.io in Paris, the Digital Finance Summit in Brussels, the 13th Development Initiation Forum, and many more.

A particular highlight was our participation in Hack4ChangeTECH, where we contributed to innovative solutions addressing real-world challenges.

Being a part of the local community: HR Events at Scalac

At our headquarters in Gdansk, we co-hosted events with Invest in Pomerania, including the cyclical industry event Wentyl_HR. These gatherings have become a cornerstone for regional HR specialists, fostering knowledge exchange and professional growth.

Pizza Days: internal growth

Our internal workshop series, Pizza Days, continued to be a cornerstone of Scalac’s learning culture. These sessions provide a platform for team members across all levels to share knowledge, enhance presentation skills, and boost confidence.

What’s next for Scalac? 2025 and beyond

Reflecting on 2024’s achievements, we’re more energized than ever to continue pushing boundaries in Scala, Akka, and fintech development. Our experiences this year have reinforced our commitment to innovation, collaboration, and excellence in software development.

Looking ahead to 2025, we’re excited to:

  • Enhance our Akka development offerings, building on the success of our Akka partnership.
  • Continue growing our Scala team-extension capabilities, meeting the evolving needs of our global clientele.

Through our Scala services and Akka development work, we continued supporting businesses in building reliable financial technology solutions. As we move into 2025, we look forward to further developing our expertise and maintaining strong client partnerships.

Here’s to another year of working hard, having fun, and doing the right thing!
